Parenting Help
Welcome to Parenting Help and Information.
As a brand new and then later, a not so brand new mother, I found that there was very little parenting help and information available. The local “baby clinic” was close by, but most of the staff didn’t have children of their own, so how could they tell me what to do.
I recall being at my wits end because my baby screamed day and night. After 3 weeks the doctor told me my breast milk was the problem and to put the infant on to formula. I was devastated. It didn’t work. It was only with the help of much older and experienced mothers, that I finally discovered that the poor child had been suffering excruciating colic.
As I grew older and more “experienced” in my turn, it seemed to me that the professionals in the field of parenting help and information grew younger and 90% of the advice they gave me was based on theory rather than practical knowledge.
Invariably, the best parenting help and information I received was from those parents who had already gone through it all. I learned more from Granny and Grandpa and various Aunties and Uncles than from anywhere else. Parenting is trial and error and is definitely not the easiest of tasks.
My take on it is that Parenting really consists of years of practical study with information being passed back from those in the classes ahead of you. You never stop learning. You and I will never ever get it entirely right. All we can do is bumble along trying to find the right path in a very overgrown forest.
Each of our children are so different. What may work well for one child, could be disastrous with another.
Having now reached 30 plus years of training, I am halfway there with another 30 to go (That is the part where you have both children and granchildren to practice on).
Come to think of it, being the child is equally confusing. How are they supposed to know what to do and when to do it? How are they supposed to know how to communicate with their adult counterparts
Although I did not always take it, I always appreciated all the parenting help and information that was offered along the way.
In fact my favorite piece of advice to any parent is…”take all the advice that you are given, throw it in a big pot, stir well and then take out all the lovely juicy bits that you most like.”
Having said all that I have put together all the parenting help and information that I have received and learned over the years, together with some recommended products that I believe will really help you.
